Everything sent to the cloud is out of control if measured in milliseconds. It is the right solution to deal with the situation with resources nearby. Edge computing brings huge opportunities to the Internet of Things.
Not everything can be processed on the cloud processing, such as,
1. Safety concerns. A considerable number of users do not want their processes and data to be uploaded to the cloud.
2. Time limited. When the time is measured in milliseconds, everything sent to the cloud is uncontrollable. For example, if you are only a few meters away from a device and you want to open it, it would be ridiculous that you send instructions to the cloud and then returned to the local gateway to do it. Actually, many operations of the Industrial Internet of Things are done in millisecond. If it cannot be performed locally, delayed processing would be a big problem.
3. Bandwidth cost. More and more devices are relying on machines. If it is all sent to the cloud for processing, the bandwidth consumed by the data would be terribly large.
For a long time to come, the edge computing products will become the main reference for measuring the technological capabilities of an IoT companies.
Quite a few IoT companies are still solving such problems as "linking up" and "connecting". The threshold for being able to do this is relatively low. In the near future, "fast calculation" will become mainstream. This is really test for IoT companies, and it is also the main condition that determines the survival of IoT companies.
Edge computing brings huge opportunities to the Internet of Things.
Being "connected" does not have a big picture,
but "fast calculation" can bring a lot to the Internet of Things.
